I struggle with split ends, as do many women. So when a product claims they can mend split ends I am interested. Joico’s K-Pak Reconstruct Split End Mender states that they will mend existing split ends and prevent new ones. Joico states that this split end mender seals the cuticle end while delivering moisture and softness throughout the hair.

This product has a great scent. It smells like juniper berries mixed with fresh pineapple. The directions say to put the product onto towel-dried hair, concentrating on the ends, and style as usual. I did this and let my hair dry naturally. It became stiff on the ends so I brushed it out. Then I straightened it.

My hair looks okay today, but not as good as usual since it wouldn’t cooperate when I straighted it; a the ends are doing their own thing in parts. The ends feel dry and damaged. My hair is not quite as silky as usual. It is possible that this is some sort of protective layer to prevent new split ends from occurring, but I don’t know. I am not a huge fan of this product.

Today I used Acai Oil Treatment by De Fabulous. De Fabulous states this product is a daily hair treatment for all hair types that softens thick unmanageable hair, restores shine and softness to dull lifeless hair, strengthens brittle hair, promotes healing and provides nourishment to hair damaged caused by coloring and styling. De Fabulous also claim that it creates an optimal balance for the hair and scalp, nourishes the scalp (alleviates itchy, dry scalp), protects against UV damage, (Polysilicone-19) and other environmental factors, reduces drying time, and speeds up styling time.

The scent of this oil is pleasing; it smells flowery, sweet, and slightly soapy. The directions state put a small amount of the oil in the palm of your hands and then to massage it into damp or dry hair. I put in onto my hair when it was dry. My hair looks super shiny and feels incredibly soft and healthy. I really like the fact that it has UV protection in it since I went to the beach today and it was a sunny day. My hair feels so incredibly healthy and silky.

I really like this product. You should try it out.

Brocato Cloud 9 Miracle Repair Treatment claims that it will nourish, strengthen, and restore damaged, weak, and vulnerable hair. Today I used this product to test those claims.

The scent is light, I think it is a floral scent. It smells nice. It doesn’t stay in your hair once your hair is dry. I followed the directions on the bottle for Brocato’s Cloud 9 Miracle Repair Treatment: After cleansing, apply a small amount onto the hair; thoroughly massage roots to ends and leave on 2 to 5 minutes; rinse completely. The treatment is a medium thickness for a conditioner. I put it on even on my roots – I usually avoid my roots with conditioners so that my hair won’t get greasy. When I rinsed it out I could run my fingers through my hair easily, there were a couple of tangles that came out right away with my fingers running through them.

I didn’t put product in my hair so that I could see what this product would do to my hair. I blow dried it and then I straightened it with a with a Chi straightener. My hair looks very shinny and healthy. I was surprised that it was so shinny without any product in it. My hair feels incredibly soft; the ends feel soft as well, but just a little broken in certain areas compared to the rest of my hair.

I recommend this product. I really love it. The shine factor rocks!

Yesterday I tried Essie Pink Ribbon. This is Essie’s manner of supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month: with their limited edition nail polish color and a pink crystal nail file made in the Czech Republic.

I prepped my nails with the crystal nail file before I applied the nail polish. I really like this file – it worked well and there is not any sand that can fall off of it. I plan to use this file again and again. The top of it is not textured so you can hold onto it without resurfacing the skin on your fingers. I also like that it is made in the Czech Republic. It brought back great memories of traveling abroad in the Czech Republic during a J-term in college. I love when products remind me of special memories.

The nail polish color is pretty. It is a sheer, pale pink with small flecks of glimmer that catch your eye. I love the color – it can be worn with any outfit. In order to test the durability of the polish I didn’t use a top coat or a bottom coat. The polish dried quickly (within a few minutes). I put on one thin layer of polish, waited about 15 minutes, and then I put on the second layer. It went on smoothly; it was a good, thin consistency for nail polish – it was not viscous.

The application looked pretty good for most of yesterday, but I did notice small chips in the polish here and there. Tonight I noticed that the color had faded away from the tips of 5 of my nails. They look good from about 1.5 feet away. If you try this product and want it to last longer, I would recommend a bottom and a top coat. At minimal use a top coat. I really like this color, the consistency, and the rapid speed with which it hardens. I will use this product again.

Today I tried out Nioxin’s Volumizing Reflectives Thickening Spray. Nioxin claims that this product adds thickness, strength, as well as body, volume, texture, and shine to fine hair without build up.

The scent of this product is odd. It smells like a cigarette smoker covering up with a floral perfume. I have had it in my hair for a couple of hours now and my hair doesn’t smell like the thickening spray. I followed the directions: spray throughout clean, towel-dried hair, root to ends, and comb through; style as usual. I applied liberally. After I combed the product through my hair I blowed it dry; it took me longer than usual to blow dry because my hair was so wet from the product. I left my hair curly and didn’t scrunch it.

I’ve been told by hair stylists that my hair is thin, but I have a lot of it. I would imagine that these types of products are good for my hair, or any products that make it look thicker. My hair looks cute. I have waves with defined separation. It looks a little fuller and thicker. It feels like there is more texture and body than usual, though it is still touchable and very flexible. It is not crunchy. It feels strong, but I don’t know if it is stronger than normal. It looks shinier than if I were to have no product in my hair. It is a beautiful luster.

I would use this product again. It gets the job done.

This morning I tried out J Beverly Hills Fragile Shampoo. J Beverly Hills claims that this product will extend color performance, gently cleanse hair, restore vital moisture, and add strength, body, and shine. This shampoo uses chamomile, nettle, and jojoba oil to achieve the desired results. This formula is sulfate-free.

The scent is light and sweet. Now that my hair is dry it just smells clean; I can’t smell the shampoo in it. One thing I really liked about this product was the luxurious lather that it provided. It didn’t give my hair the squeaky clean feeling that makes me feel like all of the natural oils have been stripped from my hair. My hair feels clean, and the shampoo did remove all of the product that I had in my hair yesterday.

I let my hair dry naturally today, and I put no product in my hair so I could test the shine factor claim. My hair looks pretty nice and in control for having dried naturally. It doesn’t feel dry today – even my ends feel healthy (it has been a little over a month since I got a hair cut). It feels perfectly soft. There is no greasiness. I was glad to see how much shine there was without any product in my hair. The shine is not over the top, but when I don’t put product in my hair it usually looks dull and frizzy. I have more volume in my hair right now than I would normally. I usually have to blow dry it or do something to the roots to have nice volume. As far as strength goes, it feels normal. It might feel stronger if I used it more than once.

I like this product. I recommend it to anyone looking for all over moisture, body, and shine.

Today I gave Evo’s Crop Strutters Construction Cream a whirl. I really like the smell. It is very tropical and smells like a pina colada with the alcohol; it also reminds me of Malibu Rum. This product is meant to separate your hair while giving it a low shine and create a medium, pliable hold. It will shape, texturize, and support your hair.

I started with clean hair. The directions said to work between hands and apply to dry hair. So I dried my hair. My hair was almost straight at this point, but it was doing its own thing from the last couple of inches down. I applied the product and it looked funny. I could tell it was not meant for this type of style. This product feels like a heavy hair wax when putting it in your hair. So I revamped my style. I ran my fingers through water and scrunched my hair. Then I scrunched with the product. It looked awesome after that. I think for medium length hair this should be worn in a curly style or as an updo helper. I know this product could hold those flyaways back in an updo. This product would rock out all kinds of short styles.

Right now my hair looks more curly than I have seen it in a while. It looks great. Most products for curly hair don’t hold my natural curls (I have larger curls that I am always trying to make tighter by scrunching when I want to go with the curly look). As far as the tactile experience: my hair is not soft, and kind of hard in some places. However, it is pretty and I have great ringlets with nice definition and separation.

It has come to my attention that I have offended one or more of the manufacturers who make a product that I have reviewed. It is important that my writing remains unbiased. These are my opinions. I want it made clear that the manufacturers do not pay me to sample their items. I am doing the reviews for the benefit of the consumer, not the manufacturer. If I were to write that all products were so great and I loved them so much and they were the best thing since sliced bread then no one would believe I was using the products. I write my experiences with the products. Lots of products are very good, and some are even fabulous. When I get to a product that is downright awful, I will write about that as well.

I am sorry for all who are offended. No offense was meant. I only share my experience. It is important that the customer knows the truth from someone who doesn’t work for the manufacturer.

Today I tried AG Ultradynamics Extra Firm Hair Spray. This aerosol hair spray claims to be is fast drying, provides an extra-firm hold, and contains sunscreen. AG also claims that this product is humidity resistant, non-sticky, and there will be no buildup. It will also increase shine.

I used this product with my hair in an updo. I used it all over my hair to hold the style up and hold the volume that I desired. The scent is perfumed. The hair spray dried quickly; the style was dry within 10 seconds. My hair now has the volume and body I desired. One difference from the AG firm hold is that the extra-firm hold hair spray can easily make your hair stiff, but I think that is good in an extra-firm hair spray. You can tell that it is holding. I tried to brush my hair at one point and I was hearing breakage. I think it is better just to wash it out. It is water soluble. My hair looks shiny and healthy. I wouldn’t know that my hair was stiff just by looking at it. All of my stray hairs are tucked into the hair spray. When I wear my hair up, if I don’t have product in it all of my baby hairs and broken hairs are all over the place. I think that is why my hair looks healthy with the hair spray on it – no broken ends are visible.

I like this product; I would use it again for a fancy occasion, if i needed to have my hair stay put for a cool updo, or even a ponytail. I recommend this product.

Today I tried AG Aerodynamics Firm Hold Hair Spray. This aerosol hair spray claims to be is fast drying, provides a firm hold, and contains low alcohol. AG also claims that this product is humidity resistant, nonsticky – brushes out easily, and there will be no buildup or flaking.

I used this product after washing, drying, and straightening my hair. I used it all over my hair to give me volume and hold the curl on the ends. The scent is fine. It is a perfumed scent. The hair spray dried quickly; the style was dry within 3 to 5 seconds. My hair has more volume and body like I wanted. It is softer than I was expecting it to be for a firm hold hair spray. It is not stiff. I can still run my fingers through my hair. I was able to brush my hair relatively easily and there was no flaking when I did. My hair acted normal when I brushed it. My hair looks shiny and healthy. It still has that great volume and curl that I added to it with the hair spray even after I brushed it.
